What do you want, and why do you want it?

What do you want?I strongly believe asking help is the opposite of what so many people perceive it as, a sign of weakness. I believe asking help can be an opportunity, a start for a new collaboration. I am a control freak, no doubt about it. But I am learning to let go little by little 😀

But often I get asked if I can help other artists. Quite nice form of flattery, if you think of it really. But without them knowing, what they walk away from our little conversations is usually lot more valuable than any contact, or connection I could hand them. They walk away with a better idea of what they want and what the should do to get closer to it.

You see most people want the idea of something more than actually knowing exactly what they want. What do you want to do? Travel! Fine, but where? I don’t know I just want to travel… Ok, take a bus, go for a walk, and you are traveling…

Now if you tell me you want to go to Paris, you already have a picture of your travels in your mind. You have a target to aim for. And this goes with anything in your life. You need to know what you want. How can you be happy, if you don’t know what happiness is?

If you get specific, you have much better chance of making your wishes true. You want to be successful artist? What does the success mean to you? Get specific here and write the details down on a piece of paper. Oh by the way, I went through a faze of making the way I operate my business paperless. I’m actually been quite successful at it 🙂 But I also realised that writing something down on a paper with a pen has somehow more symbolic meaning, and I find my self taking it more seriously. Notes in your phone are too easy to delete. Try it out, it really works 😉

Anyway, back to the task in hand. Write down specifically what you want. I don’t want to read “Car,” I want to read make, model, year, colour and even the colour of the furry dice you are going to hang from the mirror. Want to travel? Write a list where you want to go, what do you want to do, what you want to see and experience.

You see, I am a strong believer that we need to visualise in our mind what we want, before we can get it. We need to visualise what it will be like when we have it. This strong image will make us work towards it. Also it is vitally important that you concentrate in succeeding, not why you would fail. Stay positive, and let that positivity drive you.

Last, but not least, face your day with a smile, and the world will smile back at you. You need to learn to love every moment along the way as well. And at the end of the day, don’t forget to be grateful of every step you take. Don’t just concentrate on how many steps you have left to walk to reach your goal, but how many steps you already walked. Have faith and never give in.
