Trying to find the balance

backwritingDuring the past week and a bit I find my self being pushed deeper and deeper in tho the world of tech, web hosting and especially the back end of it. I know my way around WordPress and the file hosting through FTP and SFTP for some time now, but when it comes to the database (which is where the WordPress stores the data, for example my six hundred plus blog posts) this has been a two week crash course in the style of “learn or burn.”

At the end of the day, I use WordPress because it allows me to be creative, without spending too much time at the technical end of things. I am a songwriter, I am a blogger. I enjoy creating things and sharing them with the world first and foremost. So having the balance right, I have learned in the past week is very important to me. As often is the case, we only recognise these things when we are forced to alter them.

But today, I am glad to say I am back! The website is in a new server, and even though there are few things to fix, as there always is when you move to new home, at least I am back writing 🙂 And boy does it feel great. Here I sit on my living room floor, steaming cup of tea beside me, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson playing in the background as I write this post.

So what ever it is you do, don’t forget why you do it. If you are an artist, but don’t get to do art, something is wrong… And even if we take a much more general look at life, if you are in a job you don’t like, ask your self why are you there? Is it just money? Is it just to feed your family? If so, that is fine as well, as long as the balance is right. Make sure you have enough time to spend with that family at the end of the week to make all that hard work worth a while.

Trying to find that balance is a key to being happy. And it is not always easy, I get it wrong all the time 😀 But if we don’t make a conscious decision to try to improve the balance in our own life, things will never get better. I for one am glad to be back writing 🙂
