Waiting for the sunrise

This weeks new song “Waiting for the sunrise” tells a story of a someone on a journey to discover their true calling in life. I am sure many of us have have been there. Most of us have been there. Finding your true calling can be hard, but mustering up the courage to go after it often feels nearly impossible.

Of course there were those kids back in school who always had a plan. They knew from the day one that they wanted to be doctors and heal the world. But in my experience, these are the people who end up being most disappointed with the reality of their day to day life later in the life.

For most of us it is a struggle to find our true calling. In fact, many of us fail. We decide to settle for what we see most people around us in the society settle for. The job is just a means to an end. It pays the bills, feeds the family and keeps a roof over your head. And don’t get me wrong, these are important things. If this is all you want from your life, then you have find your path.

But because so many of us settle for this, we convince our selves that the alternative is too hard, or even impossible. So we try to convince anybody who are going after their dreams and their true calling, that they are wasting time. You see, if they succeed, what does this make us? A failure?

In this weeks song “Waiting for the sunrise” our hero has take the hard road. They have decided to go after their true calling. But to do this, they had to silence the doubters by leaving it all behind. Even though I’m here to tell a story and sing you guys a song, there is a lesson here as well. If some one you love is determined to go after their dream, think twice before you decide to tell them how they should not. You might run a risk of pushing them away.

The song is up on my Bandcamp page and you can download it right now HERE. I do want you guys to have the song, but even more I want the song to make you think. And if it does, hit those shares and spread the message. Thanks for taking the time to stop by, you guys rock!

4th of September 2016 Vlog update

Vlog 294 4th of September 2016 Vlog update

It’s September!?! So the last of the summer is slipping away through our fingers and the autumn breeze is already in the air. Or maybe we are due an indian summer? Who knows… But what I do know is that I will be chasing the summer for few extra weeks in about weeks time 😉 The regular readers and followers of my vlog know by now that I have a quite epic trip planned to Hong Kong and Bali and to say that I am exited right now is an under estimation of the year.

But as always, before I go, there is quite a lot of work to be done before I go. I still want to make sure you guys get the weekly songs every Friday, and that the vlogs are running smoothly even when I am in transit. Thankfully with today’s technology I can automate some of the stuff. But that definitely means I need to be few days ahead of the schedule, which means a lot of work for the next week or so 😀 But as long as there is enough hours in a day and a steady supply of coffee, I am fine with it.

So what did the week gone hold in store? Lets dig straight into it:

This weeks song “Crystal and Gold” was sticking with the concept of our dreams and how to make them true. Check it out here, download your copy and let me know what you think:

Crystal and Gold

I started the week with a trio to Dublin’s Grand canal docks and I show you guys an old ship I would like to rescue someday 🙂

I want to save this abandoned ship

As I told you guys before, I am bad at naming these vlogs 😀 Trust me when I tell you, this vlog is much more interesting than it’s tittle:

Working through a headache

I have been meaning to take you guys on one of my favourite walks in the County Dublin. This is the walk from Howth summit to the Howth village. Check it out, this is my happy place:

Howth cliffs, my favourite walk

Here is a question I get asked time and time again. So I thought it was time to turn it into a vlog. There is some solid advice here and it is very much up to date advice for musicians in 2016:

How to become a musician

As usual, in the Friday vlog I talk about this weeks song, but we also have an epic sunrise:

Amazing Dublin sunrise

As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, I have a lot of work to do before my next trip. One thing I need to do is to write and record four songs in a week! Do you think I can do it?

Four songs in one week! Can I do it?

And that wraps up the week. Let me know what you thought about this weeks vlogs. Just the usual bit of house keeping, before I let you go. If you enjoy what I do and want to support me, please consider supporting my Patreon campaign. Patreon is a great platform that connects the makers of the art with their audience directly. And by supporting your favourite artists directly, you make sure the artist can keep on making art in the artists terms, not some rules set out by record label big shots, or book publishers to make the art bland enough to try to please every one, but in the end not really fulfilling anyone. If you want to be part of my support system, check out my Patreon page HERE.

So we are only a week away from the trip, but I am committed into making this another week filled with some great content, so stay tuned 🙂

I started the day with a long walk with my camera in my hand 🙂 The mission was to capture some Dublin street art, which I have been posting on my Instagram account. Then I was once again working on a new song, which I need to do a lot this week, before I head out on the tour with Sliotar. Oh yeah, and the best burrito in Dublin 😉

Go and like my girlfriends picture

Vlog 233 Go and like my girlfriends picture

I had a random Sunday, I was walking around the streets of Dublin in the morning and I must say a lot of the city centre is a mess at the moment with all the Luas works. But hopefully it will be all sorted soon. Then I talk about a picture I posted on Instagram of my Girlfriend. She can be a bit camera shy… Well, more like shy about sharing the photos on the internet 😉 So I ask you guys to give her picture a big like on my Intsgram account HERE. It wold mean a world to her 🙂
Then the rest of the day is just the usual Sunday stuff, with some nice shots of this beautiful city 🙂

22nd of May 2016 Blog update

It is that time of the week again that we sit pack to reflect on the week and the stuff that got posted on my blog and the vlog. There is no point in beating around the bush, losing a friend definitely has an effect on my mood and that obviously feeds into the vlogs as well. But Instead of trying to hide it, I thought to just lay it all out in the open.

There were many lessons along this week, but here I picked up the few important ones:

  1. To achieve great things, you need to dig deep. To create something you are proud of, you need to put work into it.
  2. Video editing for a larger project is time-consuming and requires a lot of patience. You need to be willing to just else it from time to time and come back to it with fresh eyes and ears.
  3. Life is precious and we should be thankful for every day we have on this planet. The irony is that to be reminded of that, it often takes losing some one close to us.

This weeks song is in a way a culmination of my whole week. It is about the friend I lost. Check it  out here and don’t forget to download it from my Bandcamp page:

Living Till The Day He Died

In the first vlog of the week I did a little GoPro running experiment. I am really enjoying these little cameras a a lot:

In this vlog I talk about the filming and recording process of Liberty Hell’s live show in The Porterhouse. The actual finished video is included in a later vlog this week:

Vlog 184 Capturing a live show

This week I decided to take you along from the start to the finish with this weeks song. This was the day I wrote the song and I give you a first peak into the song in its raw form:

Vlog 185 Songwriting what’s in my mind

Then we continue by recording this weeks song. You get “fly in the wall” view of me working in my small office/studio:

Vlog 186 Studio day, catching up on time

And in the Friday’s vlog I actually talk about the song and what were some of the thoughts that made me write the song:

Vlog 187 Talking about this weeks song

And we finish the week on a high. After endless hours of editing and numerous cups of coffee, I finally had a video made out of the last weeks live show. This one I am quite proud of, so check it out and let me know what you think:

Vlog 188 I am very proud of this one!

So there we go, another week in the bag. Hope you enjoyed the ride.

Vlog 187 Talking about this weeks song

In today’s vlog I talk about this weeks new song, which you can check out HERE. I spend most of the day in a friends funeral, which I am sure you understand, is not exactly something that I will include on the vlog. But as this weeks song circles around the loss of a friend, I do get quite deep into talking about life as well. Hope you enjoy it and don’t forget to download this weeks song at: https://jpkallio.bandcamp.com/track/living-till-the-day-he-died
