Old Dog

Old DogSo we have still few more songs to go from “Read Between The Lines“. This week’s song is the second last song from the album. I wrote this song the morning after the St. Patrick’s day. I had done eleven day stint of playing anything from three hours to eight hours a day. Oh yeah, and one of the shows was in Germany, the rest of them in Dublin. The whole Paddy’s day weekend in Dublin was crazy busy this year, one I will be remembering for a while. So when I finally got out of the bed, the next morning pretty much every muscle in my body was aching :-D. People often forget that playing music for several hours ends up being a physical workout as well.

Still in the middle of recovering from it all I picked up my guitar, which alone should explain how much It means to me, and this song just kind of fell out of me. The sentiment is quite simple. I love what I do, I work hard at it, and I am fully aware that peoples perception of what they think I do and what I really do is very different. Even most of my fellow musicians don’t understand when I tell them I have to be up 7am to work :-D. And you know, that does not bother me at all. It’s the occasional stranger who asks me what I really do, just assuming music cannot be a “real job” that can get a bit old from time to time. And sometimes when the ones closest to you also miss the fact that you have done over sixty hour week out of which twenty are actually physical playing, and haven’t had a day off in two weeks…

Forgive me if this sounds like I am venting here, as that is not at all what I am trying to do. As I said above, I love what I do πŸ™‚ What I am trying to do here is give you an idea of the mood and place I was when I wrote this song. Basically I was bit fucked πŸ˜€ but at the same time proud of what I had done πŸ™‚

I also decided to record this song on the same day, and you can hear my voice has had a rough ride, but that’s what I like about it. And sometimes when you do these things in situations like that, you end up with very honest recordings, and I for one is quite proud of this one πŸ˜‰

If you like it, relate to it, or know someone who might, please share the song. And don’t forget, yeah I wrote this from the perspective of a musician, but I am sure whatever it is you do, if you work very hard at it, you can relate to this song. Heck even if you have an old dog, you might like it πŸ˜‰
