Dangerous Game

Sometimes in a relationship our cry for help can manifest in strange ways. We might bury our heads in work, look for thing our relationship does not full fill us with from family and friends. Most of the times all of this happens unconsciously, we are not even aware of the mistakes we make sometimes until it is too late. We test our partners in a destructive way. And as a result instead of them reassuring us, they might just shut down or even run away.

We need to accept the fact that there is a difference how men and a women’s brains are wired. We think different way. What is logical to me might not make any sense to you. So by pushing, or punishing one another, we are only doing damage. I know you want him to “understand” your needs, but he is not a mind reader. If you want your needs met, you need to start by communicating what those needs are. But also you need to find out what their needs are. If you are not willing to make every effort to full fill their needs, how do you expect them to do it for you?

Communication, love and connection, certainty, excitement, feeling significant and feeling that the relationship can grow are all basic things to fix most relationships. But to do it, we need to look at ourselves and be willing to do it.

This weeks new song “Dangerous Game” is all about how that “testing” your partner can go dreadfully wrong. Stop playing those games before it is too late.

You can download “Dangerous Game” from my Bandcamp page HERE right now, and if you feel someone you know, or even love should hear this song, feel free to share it. Maybe this song and blog post could be the trigger to get them off that self-destructive path. Or just a subtle reminder even for a healthy relationship to keep communicating. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Peace, an original song by J.P. Kallio

Addiction can come in many forms and most of us have come across it in some way. This weeks song “Peace” looks at the addiction from the perspective of the loved one.

Addiction by its nature makes people selfish. The addict only has one priority, and that is their next fix. They have built a defence mechanism around them that will fight against anyone who will try to intervene, or who is not enabling them.

Denial is strong, and you can be guaranteed you are to blame before they are. They have become an expert at laying the guilt. For them it is an easy way to distract from the issue at hand.

In this weeks song the loved one is finally breaking ties with the addict. As much as we might love them, there comes a point where they can have destructive effect on not only themselves but the love ones around them. In my experience, this is the point you just need to walk away. You cannot help someone, if they don’t want to help them selves. This is something I have learned the hard way over the years.

It is hard love, but it is the only thing you can do at the end of the road, otherwise you will be dragged down as well. We can only hope they will find peace some day.

As always you can grab a copy of the song from my Bandcamp page HERE. You can name your own price. If the cash is tight, just put $0.00 on the price and you are good to go. Once again absolutely massive thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings and listen to my music.

Don’t take me for a fool

So my friends, it has been a while. As I mentioned on my vlog, after releasing a new song every week for three years, I was in need of a break and decided to take the month of January off. But now I’m back with a brand new song.

“Don’t take me for a fool” is a song about a subject that has unfortunately become a regular occurrence in our society. It is a song about a family getting evicted from their home, as due to the growing interest rates the payments just had become too much to bare. From a banks perspective, they are collecting what’s owed to them. But on the other side there are people losing their home.

The real life game of monopoly, that is the property market, there are casualties everyday. It is highly regulated when it comes to paying back your loan and there is very little room for compassion. In the song the father of the family though finds it hard to accept and decides to take matters in his own hands.

Trusty old musimaLet me also geek out about guitars here for a bit.  This song was recorded on my trusty old Musima, which some of you know, is in a dire need of a good service… It has few cracks, it has more knocks and dings I’d like to admit, the frets are in bits, the nut and the saddle needs work and most of all, the pickup system on it has never been compatible with the But it still sounds phenomenal! It is the kind of guitar that you can really lean on hard and it delivers. On this track you can hear the good and the bad 😉 Due to the fact that this guitar has a cedar top, I am hoping to reduce its work load very soon and get it properly serviced. I’ll be looking into its replacement guitar, and hopefully I get to share some of the process with your guys as well.

As always, this weeks track is up on my Bandcamp page HERE, where you can download it for free 🙂 I also recorded a live video of the song, which you can check out HERE.

It feels good to be back!

This weeks song will bring to and end the third year of songs. That is 156 songs in 156 weeks! I still remember the fear of taking on the 52 song challenge on in the first place. I kept asking my self what if I can’t do it? What if I fail? Looking back now, it seems like a silly fear, but at the time it felt real… But my desire to give it a go was stronger than the power of the fear and now we are three years later 🙂

A lot has happened in those three years. And I am sure most of us will particularly remember 2016 as a strange year… This weeks song “2017” is asking us not to lose hope, even when so many things around us might look grim at the moment. Tomorrow is another day, and 2017 is another year. As long as we as individuals don’t lose hope, we have chance.

The solution to what we see as the big problems in the world around us, rarely looks as black and white as we’d like to think. And often the big change starts from very humble beginnings, even just as a one persons thought. So don’t be scared to dream big in 2017. Don’t let the fear of failure hold you back. To fail at something can be scary, but to know that you at least gave it your best shot is something to be very proud of.

In the end, it is one of those brave attempts of “giving your best shot” at something that might just make a difference in someone’s life. It might even change the world in a small way. So if your dream is to start your own business, create something, travel the world, help others, care more, run 10km… In 2017, just go for it! I believe in you 🙂

And while you’re at it making your dreams reality, let this song be your soundtrack. Grab your self a copy from my Bandcamp page HERE. Also don’t be alone on this journey, share the song with like-minded people who might just be on a similar journey to realise their dreams. Lets make 2017 a great year!

Vlog 68 Flat hunting in Dublin

So as many of you know I need to be out of my current home by the end of February, so it was time to go flat hunting, which always is a difficult task in Dublin. But I took the opportunity to film you guys some nice shots from the grey January Dublin 🙂 Hope you enjoy them. Also I had a few questions for you, so listen to the end and let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

As always the music was written by me, performed by me and you can download the track from my Bandcamp page http://www.jpkallio.bandcamp.com

3rd of January 2016 Blog update

So the new year is here. I was fortunate enough to welcome the new year among friends and loved ones. And the first morning of 2016 was a cold but gloriously sunny morning here in Poland 🙂 I still have nearly a week here as I write this, but as soon as I land in Dublin, it is going to be back to playing shows.

So far this break has been great. It has given me time to reflect on the year gone and plan for the year ahead. I strongly believe in pushing myself to do things beyond my comfortable skill set, that is how I learn the best. But the problem can be that sometimes you just keep pushing with the blinkers on, instead of taking the time to reflect and plan. So for me the best way to do this is to leave my routine, if you could call it that, behind and take a break.

At the same time, if I completely stop, I Wont last long before I go bonkers 😀 So the Vlogs has been a great treat for me as well, and from the feedback I have been getting you guys seems to be enjoying them as well 🙂 At the top of this page is a photo taken during one of our filming expeditions, of the Warsaw Palace of culture and science.

This week has given me a chance to put some time a side to work on both my capturing and editing of the Vlogs, so few lessons around that. But also figuring out when to film and when not to.

This weeks lessons:

1. Lighting is all around us, and learning to look for it when filming is a skill on its own.

2. I believe in simplicity, but when editing vlogs, more is more.

3. I might be filming something that only a small group of friends and my followers enjoy right now, but it is my responsibility to think of the consequences my vlogs might have, if they picked up a lot more views. This is why I need to think about carefully what to film and what not to film.

4. Having said that, most people around me are and have been very cool about me filming. And in the long run, it will come with the territory. So if you have a problem with being on my vlog, you probably are better of staying away from me.

I know those lessons were very vlogging related. There were more, but those are the ones I wanted to focus on right now.

Now on to this weeks posts. We had the vlogs, quick tips and new music. This weeks song was the first song 2016, and it started my third year of writing, recording and releasing new song every week. The song is called “Scared Of Life” and you can read all about it in the blog post here:

Scared Of Life

The first Vlog of the week introduces you to somewhat of a Christmas day tradition in the town where my girlfriend is from. Who was I to refuse 😉 Check it out here:

To start the new years Quick tips, I talked about something I am going to concentrate a lot in 2016 and what I think most artists should be doing:

Quick tip 255 Tip of the year

Shopping in Warsaw, Ice skating and a crazy slide thing that turned my legs into a jelly. Check it all out in this vlog:

Vlog 50 Slide too far

That brings us to 2016. 2015 was a year of many small, but significant things that I believe we will see grow into some great things in the future. The Vlogs got started, we brought to the songs week challenge to a week number 104! and even more so, I finally had the gust to ask you guys for help. And the way I did this was through my Patreon campaign. If you enjoy what I do and would like to support me, please consider pledging on my Patreon page. By pledging even $1 a month you get access to my Patreon feed, where you get to ask me questions, communicate in a more direct way and you get to see most new vlogs day before the rest of the world does. So do me a favour and visit the Patreon page HERE.

And that concludes the first blog update of 2016. As I said in the New Years message Vlog, I want this year to be a year of opportunity, and you can make it happen! Be true to your self, tell the people around you that you love them and be nice 🙂

Vlog 35 Greener Grass in The Porterhouse

Monday is here and I think it’s time for a new vlog. In this vlog I’m giving credit where the credit is due to Zoom for coming up with the drivers for the R16. I still must say that their slow reaction does make it hard to love their otherwise brilliant products.

I also give you a sneak peek into our session in the Porterhouse. Sorry about the video quality though, it is a bit of a low light situation in the Porterhouse, and even though the iPhone 6 camera is great, it still struggles in a low light. But as I mentioned before, the acquisition of new camera is in the plans. But until then this will give you guys a taste of it anyway 🙂 Once again, let me know what you think.

This week I was on a story telling mood once again. It’s hard not to wonder from time to time where all these stories come from 😀 This weeks song is a story of a man who got into a bar room fight, defending the honour of his lady. But things get out of hand, blood is spilled and life is lost. Our character is not a bad person deep down, but has got himself enough small trouble in the past to get to know the local judge and he is sure this would not work to his advantage. So he decides to leave everything he knows, home, family, loved ones, even his country behind and become an outlaw on the run.

The thing is, there are people out there who are genuinely bad people. But at the same time there are those who just ended up in a bad situation that had life altering consequences. So let’s try not to judge people, before we hear their story. It is too easy to make someone look like they are a bad person, by only highlighting one side of the story. We all have made mistakes somewhere along the way.

And lets not forget this weeks song “Outlaw” is available for a download on my Bandcamp page HERE. Hit the play, download it and share it with the world.

This vlog could be almost part of my “On Songwriting” series of blog posts. I just let the video camera roll while I was writing a song, so you get a real insight into my songwriting process 🙂

And there are other stuff in the vlog as well, for example few nice shots from my morning run int he St Stephen’s green here in Dublin.  Hope you enjoy it 🙂
