J.P. Kallio EPK

J.P. Kallio Electronic Press Kit

Northern Boy Press Release:

When not busy setting stages on fire with punk rock combo Boneyard Bastards, or getting the crowd psyched to the beat of Irish folk with Sliotar, J.P. Kallio takes on his music with an acoustic guitar and his bare vocals.

The laid back approach to recording and performing on his debut solo album, “Northern Boy”, showcases a different side of J.P. as a performer and song-writer.

Even though these songs are “skin and bones” – or maybe because of it – the emotion is on the forefront. J.P.’s personal and introspective lyrics play as big of a role as his solid, steady and rich folk guitar rhythm.

This Finnish-born Dubliner set out to keep a punk rock spirit, translating in the essentialism of his composition, although the girt and aggression of the electric guitars is replaced by a naked, bedroom production feel.

Northern Boy out on 25th of March 2014

Reviews

“”It ain’t easy” is just about the song, the heart and the feeling behind it. There are no tricks, no studio embellishments and no extra amenities, just the sound of a man, singing his heart out and performing on his guitar. Talk about “less is more” !
The song is based on simple chord progression, an approach that owes as much as 60s folk icons the likes of Bob Dylan, as it does to influential artists such as Mike Ness (Social Distortion’s legendary frontman) and Brian Fallon (aka “the nicest guy in rock and roll”, fronting The Gaslight Anthem”).

This is great music that just speaks for itself, honestly and directly.”

Thebandcampdiaries

“Kallio makes this incredibly refreshing, raw, acoustic, emotional, and honest music. Kallio’s dulcet and touching songs combine smooth acoustic guitar with simple vocals to create beautiful songs filled with emotion that you can listen to for hours on end. The guitar is carefully strummed and mostly understated which allows his voice to resonate and convey what his songs are about.”

JamSphere

“The sound is superb. I think I can even hear the surface of the sound.”
